W E A R I N G / Self Made

It is so rewarding to wear something self made; an idea which you managed to turn into an actual product. Like these white denim pants, denim cocoon coat and silver lunch bag. The coat was actually made by my boyfriend, but it turned out too small for him so I appropriated it and left it unfinished and frayed, just like the bottom of my white denim 'karate-pants'.

I'd just shorten the sleeves (especially for practicalness reasons), other than that you can wear literally any shape, this is fashion :>

you should really design your own collection, this outfit is proof of it!

that's great! I love the raw seams.

I agree with tigrazza, you should shorten the sleeves, especially since the shoulders are too big for you.

Although it looks fantastic I'd much prefer to see a remark on your sources of inspiration since it is a very distinct style especially with the frays. The way you felt about nelly.com's attempt to copy your design I thought it would only be fair to mention the above.

thanks anonymous; I would definitely refer to an inspiration source, but there wasn't really any except for karate suits.

The situation with Nelly was very different, because they took free blog content that was meant to be an antidote to buying and commercialism; a DIY project, and turned it into something profitable. I saw it as a direct attack on blogs, who put free ideas out there. I think it is totally OK to take inspiration, and for designers to interpret the same concept in their own way though.

The pants were inspired on karate pants, Romeo made the coat based on a shirt which he also made some months ago, what he did was elongate the pattern to make it into a coat. On him it was going to be more of a hip length, fitted jacket. But on me it turned out to look more like a cocoon coat. This is one of those projects which turned out to be completely different than planned.

I am a recently Fashion Designer graduate and I have to agree with you Ivanna, it is one thing to copy someone else's design in every single way and then try to make money out of it. It is another thing to gather inspiration form other designers, things and life and make your own interpretation of it. Nothing today is original, it is all about how creative you can be with some that already exists and put a spin it. Your blog is very inspiring because it is not just about looking pretty and buying expansive things and showing off in your blog. I enjoy your DIY, or when you post about thins you have made. I find that way more interesting and courageous then most blogs out there.

they look absolutely wonderful. I love leaving the hems unfinished on dresses I make of jersey, though I think this may be half-laziness

AM: you mean from the last manicure post? that was just a regular black nail polish, rimmel I think... but I cut half of the hairs from an old nail polish brush so it was easy to draw the line :)

I love the choice of denim here Ivania. The rigity of the rawness of it helps create that cool dome shape in the back without a back pleat of any sort, beautiful!! If this was sold in selfridges, it'll be like 600+ pounds!! :D Btw, I'm so glad you liked my newest outfit, your comment made my day, such an honor.

Ivania great DIY you made! I'm a fan of yours long time now and i admire your simple plain taste. As for the anonymous comment, it is a different thing to be inspired of something and much more different to copy another persons idea to make money of it. Well anyway, people never think alike and we can not practice moral for teaching anyone. Luv and hugs from Greece dear! Keep posting on your blog cause ure fantastic!
