D I Y / Foil Lunch Bags

Photobucket

I'm a big fan of making the disposable undisposable. Like Maison Martin Margiela did with hospital bracelets, plastic and paper bags and wallets that look like paper envelopes. Anve and Jil Sander's followed with leather lunch bags and now Acne brought out a fantastic metallic crinkled leather pouch.

When I saw this cheap, faux metallic leather that looked more like the foil they wrap your take-out dinner in I knew it was time to make some bags. After analyzing a brown paper bag, I copied it on a slightly bigger scale, putting thin seams where the folds should be and finishing off with a zig-zagged cut edge.

this is so great, I will try to do something similar. I just have to find out where to buy faux metallic leather.

I absolutely LOVE this idea! You're so creative! You should open a shop or something. And btw, I actually like your design way better than the bag from Acne. xo

The bag look super simple and easy to make. My only concern is finding a fabric store that sells faux leather. I would love to attempt at this.

Kitty Hawk said...

not only have you just stunned me with how professional your diy looks. you've also made me come to the simple conclusion what professionality is: when a great and intelligent idea teams up with proper material and perfect workmanship to become something even greater than the sum of those three.

thank you very much for being so generous to share your genius! reading your blog makes my life richer.

Kitty Hawk said...

p.s. i imagine the hardest part was to cut the zig zag so neatly? my granny gave me zig zag scissors for fabric some weeks ago and i cut felt with them. it was pretty tiring to achieve the perfect alignment of the little triangles - but what shall a perfectionist do? did you use any tricks on that part? :)

So awesome! Do you know the brand Antiatoms? They make really awesome "permanent disposable" products such as leather lunch bags and leather paper bags.

Two of my favourites are these:

http://antiatoms.com/articulo.php?id=26&languaje=en

They look so buttery and wonderful!

Hi, this looks too good not to try, but I'm new to the Netherlands, and was wondering where you buy your faux leather scraps from. It'd be really great if you could give a few tips. Thanks!

Jo Moxie said...

I am a little annoyed that you did not either tell anyone where you got the fabric, tell anyone that you don't want to tell or that you didn't tell us if you plan to sell these and if so, where.

Jeez.
