L I F E / The Christmas Dress I Made For My Kid

Really wouldn't want my kid to look like the Christmas tree on Christmas, so we skipped the poofy dresses adorned with bows, diamonds, lace, layers, and excessiveness. Instead, I sketched a couple of dresses, let Lois pick one and got behind the sewing machine for an hour or two (you guys on instagram already saw a snapshot). I like how plain this asymmetric one turned out, which makes it all about Lois and gives space for her fantastic personality, she really doesn't need any sparkles.

u know, I used to say that I wouldn't like to have a girl (one big day) because I don't like all that pink sparkles and "girly" princess look...and u show now that a mama can teach and "pass" her style to her girl!

wish u Merry Christmas..!

i think you totally nail it
i'm not a big fan of bows and ruffles and stuff like that either
i don't have kids, and i might like those on other kids, but i don't know if i would like them on mine
plus, this outfit seems so comfy for playing around
kudos

Do you not think it's more fair to let her be a kid instead of something that looks good on you?

Anonymous said...

I mean, you're essentially just a hipster pageant mom

Anonymous said...

I don't understand the previous two comments...can't a kid "be a kid" regardless of what they're wearing? And isn't every parent essentially dressing their child in their own style, not just Ivania? Not to mention, it seems from what she wrote in the post that she'd given her daughter a choice...

The clothes my mother, aunts, and grandmother made for me were the most special. I loved being different, and having my own "style" as a kid. I wish I had saved them all. Good job mom!

Anonymous said...

The dress turned out gorgeuos - nevertheless want to raise awareness to one point: of course subtle clean clothes leave place to let your personality shine through but they have also a special language/a message that is conveyd; not the "loud" like sparkles have but the arty unique one that in which the person thinks of herself, like she wants to be seen of others

A hipster pageant mom? haha
No, we let Lois be very very free and let her make a lot of her own choices, including her clothes in the morning and picking what she likes in shops, she had her hello kitty-all pink phase which I absolutely dreaded, but allowed. I also try to keep all the fashion stuff as much away from her as possible and want her to develop her own personality before even thinking about the exterior. This year I just passed on going Christmas shopping with her because of exactly this, all this glitter, ads, and pressure targeted at little girls. Taking her there could make her too conscious about how she looks, in my opinion. She has plenty of princess dresses to play dress up with if she wants to.
Don't know if you're a mom too, but you can just never know if you're doing the right thing. Not exposing her to the glitter Christmas craziness seemed like the best (and healthiest) thing to do.

*thanks other anonymous for sticking up for me! You are totally right, she picked this dress too! Not from the racks of H&M but sat with me when I sketched a couple of dresses.

In this kind of situations, it doesn't make a difference how cost-free the education method is, does not issue how smart the kid is. That child is propably? not going to have all of that excellent grades, if he attends school whatsoever.. . Meanwhile an typical kid inside a average household is entirely effective at obtaining higher grades, all due to the stable platform a steady loved ones and home can offer. Individuals in ghettos dont do nicely in college, doesnt make a difference if theyre black, white, or purple.
