ACCESSORIES | Metal Collar Tips, Big Disappointment

Photobucket

The Asos metal collar tips are one big disappointment.
One of them was already slightly damaged when they came in, underneath the smooth surface it looked like it was oxidized from within. After a few days the oxidation spread and the collar tip is now covered with black stains. The other one that seemed to be okay, just broke in two for no reason at all. You can't expect high quality from Asos accessories, but I did expect to be able to wear these more than twice.

Oh that's too bad! But thanks for warning us so we don't fall for it too. I love the idea of collar tips. Did you see on Honestly WTF when they had the diy version? Here's the link in case you're interested:

I haven't tried it yet but definitely think I'm going to.

Whhhattt? That seriously sucks. Really appreciate your honest review of the item! They look so cool but that seriously sucks if they can't be worn more than twice. They need to get some product control on that. xx

you should make these collar tips with DIY. You are good at it and you don't deserve damaged accesories.

i know what you mean. although you are not spending a lot of money on it doesn't mean that you don't want to use it.
maybe you can write to customer services and they will compensate you?

Please post if you end up doing the diy version! And thanks for stopping by my blog! I totally agree that a two-toned mani with those colors would be ideal, unfortunately I think my right hand would turn out a mess! Probably just end up doing something like this:

lullig joh, ik zou het echt even melden!

That really sucks. It may not cost a lot but it still seems like a waste of money when you cannot use it because it is broken and damaged.

I have thought to buy some myself but now I wouldn't. They look really nice, though.

That's a shame. I imagine they'd be an amazing accessory if they weren't such crap. Maybe a diy?

Elle UK magazine did a great feature on High Street shopping in their last month issue, in which they address the subject of faulty goods in particular, including a bit on consumer rights: "Whatever the guarantee, your purchase must be pf satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. Just because an item is cheap does not mean you expect it to fall apart. For the first six months the buyer has the benefit of the doubt, so you should get a refund if it develops a fault in that time."

also:
"It may be reasonable for the retailer to offer you a repair. but if the fabric is fundamentally flawed, it's not 'fit for purpose' or of satisfactory quality, only a refund is adequate."

In any case, I'd ask for a refund, even though they do look impeccable with that shirt (at least in pictures). =]

Great blog as well as style, by the way!

DAMN! I've JUST ordered them! :( Yesterday! Well, I follow another blog, where the blogger is thrilled about his, so maybe it's your pair that has that problem. I'm going to hope for the best!

Never settle, demand a refund. Just because they were inexpensive doesn't mean you should have to keep a product you're unsatisfied with. Did you take photos of the imperfections when they arrived? Either way I would take photos and send them an e-mail with the photos attached. No matter what their return policy is, even if other people are fine with theirs, you deserve a refund for a faulty product.

Dat is wel erg slecht ja.. ik heb het ook al eens gehad met ringen van Asos, die houden het ook ongeveer 2 dagen vol :S

Maar ik moet zeggen: op de foto lijken ze nog steeds erg mooi, haha.

Also bought them, I haven't worn them yet, since I need a white collar first, but mine were also slightly scratched when they came. When they end up like yours, I'd demand a refund!

That's such a shame. I haven't purchased anything from Asos before, but can you try returning or exchanging them?

Ik wilde ze ook bestellen!! Ik vind ze zoo mooi, rot dat ze zo slecht zijn, ik zou als ik jou was de klantenservice even een berichtje sturen zodat ze hun klantvriendelijkheid even kunnen bewijzen!

i was going to get these!! thanks for reviewing them. they do look cool, but not worth ruining clothes for!

Francesca said...

Well since they are a faulty good, you could write an ask for compensation :) They look pretty cool, such a shame that the quality is bad, but I know what you mean, because I ordered a ring from them, and within 2 times of wearing it, the silver ring turned brown.. oxidation obviously, but from now on I'm only buying sterling silver! xx
