A C C E S S O R I E S / Hardware Store Acquirement

Photobucket

It must be their industrial looks and their sense of functionality that draws me so much to these metal parts. Every time I visit the hardware store I discover a new screw, lock or hinge, like this one whose original function is to keep tubes together. It also fits around my wrist perfectly and surprisingly is also very comfortable because of it's adjustable size, it doesn't move up and down your arm when moving.

*Thanks to a few readers I found out that some of these hardware store parts have Nickel in them which can cause allergies. What you could do against this is apply some transparent nail polish on the inside of the jewelry where they touch your skin. Voila, no more allergies!

This is fantastic!
I've been wearing a hose clip as a ring recently, and have received many comments from people who have no idea it originally came from a hardware store.
Some of these building supplies have surprisingly beautiful design.

Haha, I wish my trips to the hardware store proved as fruitful as yours.

it's really amazing what you can dig out there! the only thing that bothers me is that greenish glow about some hardware equipment. i wish it was either gold or silver colored!

I like this type of jewelry A LOT, however there has just been a huge article about the use of hardware stuff as jewelry here in Denmark, because unfortunately you can get allergies from the nickel in them. so a good thing is to reccomend your readers to buy nickel testers or just ask in the store to make sure not to buy screws or other things with nickel in them. for your own health. :-)

I was going to say the exact same thing as Josefine :)
Many bloggers has written about the article this week, because so many people are starting to purchase bolts for example to make hex nut jewelry, and many also get nickel allergy from the same thing, cause the things you buy in building supply stores are made for other purposes than to out on your skin, so it's important to test the products you buy first (the testers can often be bought in pharmacies) and be aware of the risk :)

AGAIN, Ivania, you can seriously sell these ideas and concepts to some house like Maison Martin Margiela and be the head of their jewelry department! I'm sure their headquarters in Paris has studios full of random objects for you to fully let your inner DIY soul shine!

truly amazing...love the feel of cold metal on soft skin...

p.s. instead of a nail polish, you can use a transparent acrylic spray paint, as it is easier for bigger surfaces :)

DIY Accessories are all about repurposing old and discarded stuff. If you have an old, broken keychain, you can change it into a lovely finger-ring.
