VIDEO | Experiment: Wearing The Same Dress for 30 days

How versatile can a basic piece be?
Versatile enough to be worn everyday to every occasion that comes up?
And if it is, how meaningless will a large wardrobe look?
Will I miss my other clothes?
Will this dress be burned afterwards because I'm so sick of it or will I continue to wear it daily? I'm going to find out by wearing this dress from June 1st every day until the July 1st.

Wearing the same item for a certain amount of time isn't anything new, for example wearing the same jeans for a year. Though while fast fashion is now dying a slow death, this little project seems more relevant than ever.
I'm wearing a COS tanktop in a size large as a dress, later on I found out that there is also a longer, dress version of it.

Great initiative! I don't know if I could... We over-consume, so I'm curious to see all the different styles yo can pull with one dress. Cool video too, btw.

sigh, I wish many many many people would watch this (I, myself am very curious about the result of this experiment) and hopefully understand that we already have enough clothes, that creating an outfit is not about constantly buying new stuff and following the new trends. Thanks to people like you who aren´t in that cycle of buying new, cheaply made stuff and then not putting it on again after one usage. I´ll definitely take you as an example :)

Marijke said...

Heel leuk idee! Goed initiatief! Hopelijk zet het iedereen tot denken.

I love the idea. It also shows that for a project like this you just have to use something extremely basic and simple. Having these items in your wardrobe and combining them is 1000times better and more meaningful than purchasing complicated multicolour dresses with too maqny decorations.
Thumbs up and looking forward to see your everyday (identical but yet different) outfit!

Great idea! I'm excited to see the results of your experiment.

I've been working on minimalizing my own wardrobe and getting away from the societal fear of wearing the same clothes fairly often.

I definitely prefer having a smaller wardrobe than an immense one, and I'm sure the people at the thrift store have loved my donations. :P

great! i cant wait to see this. i love the fact your doing this, it just seems that alot of the popular blogs are fighting themselves to buy new things and wear completely different outfits in every single post. Realistically the average person cannot do this and do not really have the funds to buy the new acne shoes or the latest must have. IIt is great hat you are taking inspiration from others who have done this. I know that you will create killer outfits too. Cant wait to see how you do this!

Anonymous said...

I really like your idea. I've often thought about how easy it was for people in past centuries or even a few decades back to get dress when they had only 2 or 3 dresses to wear. It must have led them to innovate different ways of wearing the same things, as you are doing. Will be looking at your results. Good Luck!

first of all: i have been looking forward to this since you've posted about it on facebook! since my grandfather has told me so much about him deliberately owning nothing but one set of quality clothes throughout the 1950s after he had experienced abstinence during wwII, i am deeply fascinated with artificial needs and true satisfaction, in this case concerning clothing. i love the 6 pieces / one month project and am dedicated to a capsule closet myself.

however, i thought i had found the perfect dress at cos which turned out to be poor material as the fabric turnes stained after i had handwashed it for the 2nd time. i am still SO sad and interested how your dress will turn out. will you carry on with your project even if there will a serious problem with your dress? are there any guidelines?

and will you limit the number of accessories and eventually additional clothes (jacket or tights - it's already june but there is no guarantee for warm weather and your dress is rather airy), too?

this is just brilliant, I love the whole idea (and the dress too!)
It is actually one step back in the past when people use to have less clothes in better quality, I've been always thinking about it with a great respect and I was always thinking about practicing it with my wardrobe ( but somehow it never really worked out...)
anyway, I'm really curious about the results, but I'm afraid that the dress won't withstand in a great condition...

Also, this project PLUS your whole blog both fulfil my idea of being creative without having new garments every single day/post. I realized I started to be sick and tired of bloggers who wear their new shorts-shoes-dress-... just once (!!). I m always thinking where the "old" pieces could go....and i feel actually sorry for them...

Your blog blows my mind every time and makes me really think instead of shoving more advertising in my face which is why I love visiting it so much. I can't wait to see how it turns out for you. I wore the same long sweater for a week, not as long, but I still wear it a lot now and as a bonus it was like being in school when I had a uniform. I just had to think of accessories and I could throw on my clothes. So you might like it :)

when i was 13 years old, i was kinda OBSESSED with dungarees. i didn´t use the same one for a year, but i was always on a dungaree, in different fabrics, colors, etc.
when you use the same clothe for a long time, it gets part of yourself, and once you change it, people notice. sometimes, they don´t know what they´re noticing, but they know there´ something different about you and cannot tell exactly what.
the experience is interesting, and forces you and your creativity to innovate with limited resources. cheers on your experience.

On the other hand, you don't want to start discussing details about your personal life on your business blog. This also depends on your own personality, your niche and the audience you are targeting. If you would think twice before saying something in a phone call or email to a customer, you should leave it out of your blog.
