D I Y / DIY Anonymous Books

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Books: Click to see how they looked before

glass container: iittala
lamp: gift from my mom
perfume: Maison Martin Margiela

I really like to keep my stuff in sight and not tuck everything away behind closet doors; like a thrifted fashion encyclopedia from 1986 and the favorite book from my childhood Matilda. Though a shelf crammed with piles of books can look pretty messy and is visually disturbing. So I figured that giving them a new white cover(just some thick paper folded around the original covers) would solve this and also protect my vintage books. I planned to write the titles on the book spines with a black marker but I really liked their new anonymous look, besides I know exactly which book is which. To keep your books standing up without any book stands just take an elastic, tie a knot in it and put it around your books.

I just love your clean aesthetic. And great idea of using elastic as a book holder. I also really like how you didn't stack the books in order of height. Genius. :)

I'd say this result is more visually disturbing. It looks like a kidnapped Rachel Whiteread...

Very effective. Love how the books have the feeling of being both coveted and rejected at the same time. How you know them so well and yet strip them of their individuality and essence. It's amazing how sterility and minimalism can reveal so much detail and depth about an artist and their message. Keep it up.connect with his heart

this is brilliant!
finally a solution for how i can keep all my books on display but make them more attractive.
love the idea of writing on them too. maybe an all black sharpie in cursive would be perfect!

Hello Ivania, yet another interesting, original and thought-provoking post.
I must admit, the cleanliness of the book covers is appealing and fits in very well with your style and way of life, but do you think over time you'd miss seeing the well-loved and familiar book covers you've lived with?
Warm regards,
A sentimental fool -x-

Thank you Hannah, maybe I will.. But then, I can always take off the covers of the ones I miss, great thing is that this isn't permanent :)
