L I F E / Summer Studying / 3 Book Recommendations

 photo loveaestheticssummerbookrecommendations.jpg
Honestly, my opinion is that a lot of diplomas are overrated (not talking about the surgeons and the lawyers). Specially in creative fields, having a diploma doesn't always mean you are qualified, not having a diploma doesn't always mean you're not. It is just very important to keep educating yourself, and never stop learning. Even during summer. So here are three of book recommendations, 01 a must read, 02 my favorite and 03 my latest.

01 / But is it Art / Cynthia Freeland
This is an introduction for everyone who is interested in art theory. The book starts with a statement that sums it all up; 'This book is about what art is, what it means and why we value it'. I specially like how it is written, very clear, simple, easy and full of humor. You'll get through it in no time.

02 / My Dear Bomb / Yohji Yamamoto
One of, if not, my favorite book. It is that entirely black book, the most worn down of the bunch as it has travelled a lot and has been borrowed a lot. Every time I read it I discover new things that I hadn't payed much attention to before. Filled with short stories, quotes, letters and sketches about Yohji's life and work.

03 / White wash / Nicholas Alan Cope
My most recent book purchase, 86 pages of visual bliss, geometrical black and white images of architecture. Besides a two paragraph explanation by the author and a foreword by Rick Owens, there is no text. Although I only know the Californian landscapes through cliche images in movies, this book highlights an entirely different modern point of view.

I love posts like this! I wouldn't mind reading about Yohi's life, it's going on my list as well.

A beautiful image - you capture light so nicely in everything you do.

And added all three books to my must-read list!

I completely agree with you. If I could do it all over again I wouldn't take the whole education/university route but try and get as much experience and inspiration as possible. x

I agree with your point on certification. When it comes to the arts, talent and drive can take a person farther than a diploma in a come cases. As for the books, thanks! Will definitely be checking them out.

Hey nice post, love the books too!

In terms of the diploma stuff, experience is key.

Experience and a diploma = essential!

I am studying a creative degree and it takes a lot more of my time a lot more effort than some of my friends doing degrees in areas like law.

Thank you for sharing, Ivania! I absolutely agree with your point- organised education does no always mean good education. You have to always grow on your own.

Great recommendations! I saw Notebook on Cities and Clothes and really enjoyed it. There's something so beautiful, soulful, and serene about Yohji, and his quotes are always so thought-provoking, so I can't wait to finally get my hands on My Dear Bomb.

AHAHA

I see that you made your own cover for the Cynthia Freeland book . I like yours better than the original, i must say. Not inspired by the flashy cow ? Me neither.

Cool idea. I will definitly check them out.

thanks-checked out my dear bomb on amazon-looks like a great read. i have always been an admirer of his work-used to pass his shop in soho every day on my way to work but never went in, a mix of being intimidated and never having enough free time. i am thinking of ordering the book!

hi again, i just wanted you to know i picked up "my dear bomb" -- can't thank you enough for the recommendation, it is truly one of those 'life changing' books...has really cemented a lot of ideas i've had about design/art/aesthetics...love it when that happens! also, it has me thinking about clothes, accessories, and creativity in a whole new way.

time4learning reviews is one of the best platforms for home schooling. Besides the best training program, the guys offer excellent customer service. I had a few problems with the website, so the technical support helped me to solve them in just a couple of minutes.

On the site https://yourmailorderbride.com/asian-brides/ there is no end of the edge, future wives are full. Having been on the site literally 5 minutes, I was picked up a beautiful girl with whom I have been communicating for 2 months.
